During World War II, when the U.S. had entered massive war production and was experiencing shortages at home, women left their traditional roles at home raising the children to go to work in the factories, textiles, munitions, etc. To support the war effort, and to support their fathers, brothers, sons, husbands, and boyfriends that were overseas fighting.

Those same women paved the way for many of the equal rights issues in regards to getting paid appropriately for doing their jobs, and for having the oppurtunity to get into those job fields.

Many, many men have died and gotten seriously hurt for the "women and children first" ideology. By the same token, many women were hurt and/or killed because they went to work during the war to support their male counterparts and the war effort.

Now we're taking a step backwards with all of this anti-abortion, anti-contraception, anti-women's rights stuff. We're called prudes if we won't put out, we're called sluts if we use contraception, and we're compared to Satan and all manner of evils if we have an abortion for the child you didn't want us to be able to prevent.

It has to STOP.

Whether I personally agree or not with abortion is not the issue here. What I *DO* agree with is that it should be EVERY woman's RIGHT to CHOOSE what she is going to do.

NO man, NO woman, NO ONE has the right to tell ANY woman what she will or will not do with her body! Contraception is for a lot more than just preventing babies, and abortions can often mean the difference between mom living, or mom dying. And in the case of very poor couples, it can also mean the difference between a child growing up starviing or lacking their basic needs!

Aside from consenting couples, where the man should have at least some say - though in the end it is still HER body and HER choice - aside from that, NO one has any right to decide FOR me, or FORCE me to carry a child to term that might have medical issues it's whole life, spend it's life on machines, spend it's life bouncing from one miserable foster home to another.

For those of you who are anti-abortion, I have one question to ask you : How many children have YOU adopted?

Keep your laws OFF of MY body!

I'm sure that most of the women who supported the effort to stop the Axis Powers in World War Two would be saddened by the use of "YOUR war" in the image. By using this terminology, you are minimizing the essential contribution of women to the war effort. Women filled important roles in the fight against Nazi and Japanese Imperial expansionism, and I am certain that most of them, certainly including Rosie when she said "We can do it," believed that it was their war too. Brave women such as Jacqueline Cochran and Lydia Litvyak (the first female fighter ace of WWII) risked their own lives and actively encouraged women to fly aircraft, or to contribute in other ways. It's sad that most of these women have since been forgotten and their efforts so easily cast aside to be used as political soundbites.
I fully support a woman's right of choice, but not while insulting the memory of those who made the debate possible in the first place.
