So, this is another big kitbash of an image here. Both the girl and the miniature Treant are built on Genesis 1's. There are plants in here from Traveler, Flink, Orestes, Caisson, Predatron, AM, Andrey, the Hagswood trees... just to name a few.

The jeans on Stefanie are from a very old Victoria 3 set from Awful Soul/Aery Soul. The shirt is from Dzheng. Her hair is also an Awful Soul/Aery Soul item. I did use one of Danae's skins for her, with a bunch of tweaking to the DS materials.

The miniature treant sapling that Stefanie is playing with is a Genesis 1 with bits of the M4, K4, and V4 Forestals package applied, as well as I set the tree trunk invisible on one of the Hagswood trees and used only the leaves, parented to Genesis' head to give the little sapling the leafy topping/head crown appearance there. There are bits on her from (again) an old AerySoul V3 set (I think it was Yaara), as well as the more recent Ony tribal outfit/jewelry set. I did not make the figure's skin textures this time. The sapling's skin was accomplished by using some tree bark shaders that I bought from Daz a while ago. I just applied them to Genesis 1's skin for this.

This is a story/illustration render, but I'll save you all from the long writeup that goes with it. This is a sequel render that follows the first "Tree People" image in my gallery, though. Stefanie tends to find herself some strange playmates.

Daz Studio 4.8; 3Delight render
Postwork in Corel Photopaint x7

Thanks to :iconouraknysot: for her help with getting the camera angle and framing right on this one! :)

Aww... thanks so much, 'Chelle! I love this laptop... I have nicknamed this pc "The Beast" nowadays. LMAO I would never have been able to even set up that scene, let alone render it on any of my prior computers! *pats her trusty little laptop* :D

I think I fell for that little baby Ent, haha... we will probably see it in future pictures. I ended up saving the whole character setup as a scene subset to my content library for future uses... it's a cute little thing, I couldn't resist it!

LOL I know the feeling - while I would love to drop a little more memory into mine, it amazes me what all I've been able to do with it to be honest. I meant, I haven't actually used my PC for a render in roughly 2 years now - just no time to sit down at my desk.

Hehe I can't say I blame you, it's a lovely creation and a rather ingenious use of foliage - I never would have thought to do that (and now it's making me toy with some various ideas on a character of mine) to tell the truth.

Hehe, that little baby Ent is a whole, big, massive kit-bash. :D I'm actually proud of the little stinker. LMAO

If you want to know what parts went into it, I can give you the credits list. You might not have all of it, but it might help you insofar as figuring out your own ideas. I actually used Genesis 1 for the baby (no surprise - that is still to date, my MAIN figure of choice for rendering...), but there are items on there for V4, K4, M4, and G2F to achieve the little tyke. :D

Skin (and many other surfaces)  - Shades of Life Nature (Dimension3D, Daz)
www.daz3d.com/shades-of-life-n…

Eyes - Surreal Gaze Terror Eyes - (Surreality, Daz)
www.daz3d.com/surreal-gaze-ter…

This one is a V4 product, but again, I just made use of selecting the proper uvmap for those material zones that I wanted to apply these on.

Muelsfell Hagswood (E-Arkham, Daz)
www.daz3d.com/muelsfell-hagswo…

Some of the "hair" leaves were achieved by setting all parts of the "male" Hagswood tree invisible except for the leaves (beard, mushrooms, trunk/tree part). Once that was done, I scaled it down to fit the little tyke, and did a lot of translation/scale/rotation to get them situated on top of the "tree" head cap.

The Forestals - (MortemVetus, IslandGirl, RuntimeDNA)
www.runtimedna.com/The-Foresta…

Many of the pieces came from all three parts of this one; some were parented and scaled/moved into place, other parts were converted to fit via auto-fit. This is a combined set that covers all three Gen4 figures; M4, V4, and the K4.

Pieces from this set in use :
1.) Hands (M4) - Autofitted as gloves
2.) Boots (K4 right foot, and M4 left foot) - Autofitted as bodysuit - Note that the grass tuft on the left foot is parented to the "boot" and actually came from LisaB's old, very old Cottage Plants package from Daz years ago.
3.) Leaf Hair (it actually has some helpful morphs in it!) - V4 - parented, NOT conformed! Also note that some of the branches and ivy mixed into the character's "hair" came from that same old Cottage Plats package from LisaB.
4.) Head "tree" top/face&head cap - This was from the M4 part of the package. It DOES NOT autofit very well AT ALL; I parented it and scaled/translated/rotated etc. I also did a little bit of work via d-forms to make a couple of custom adjustment morphs for around the shoulders when Genesis is posed.
5.) Some of the M4 head twigs also got used on the tyke's head

Ony Tribal G2F - (AerySoul, RuntimeDNA - No longer available)

I converted via auto-fit the G2F pieces of this set to cover her bits and bobs both north and south, even though she's all bark. I wanted to kind of lend a bit of sentience and personality and show that she had her own sense of style a bit, so I used these pieces to kind of do that... yeah, a walking tree wearing clothes made out of plants. I know, not very original, but it seems to work for her.

Yaara for Victoria 3 - (AerySoul, Renderosity - Yeeears ago and no longer available)

I again did a conversion via auto-fit to get some of the pieces of Yaara's clothing fit onto Genesis 1 for the little tyke's use. I just used the arm pieces, because they did a good job of looking a bit like ivy stems wrapping around her arms.

I also did convert via auto-fit parts of the various Yaara hip cages and pantie from Yarra for use on this; the set as a whole blends very well with the Ony G2F items on the character.

The Forest King - (RawArt, Daz)
www.daz3d.com/the-forest-king

The two shoulder branches that stick up from the sides of the neck/shoulders like pauldrons are actually a native Genesis 1 product. I played around with quite a few of the parts from it, and ended up only using the two shoulder parts.

------------------------

A word of advice : In my case, with this little baby sapling, she started out being a bit heavy on the system to manage. I would suggest that when you set up your critter, removing all maps from any material zones on any part of objects that are set invisible will help lighten the load a bit. I did this with her, and had a much more manageable load-weight to work with in my scene. She can still be a bit laggy depending on the background, but when I did this image, I didn't really have a LOT of lag in the scene during setup at all.

The background is a whole damn mix of everything from Traveler, to Flink, LisaB, Orestes, Andrey, Alessandro, and who knows how many other vendors. I really filled it up quite a lot with plants. I've even got some native (to my area at least, east coast USA here) Staghorn Sumac trees mixed into the background there. You can spot those easily if you just look for the classic red "cones" in the image.

I also did render this with a DOF camera. I did NOT try to achieve this DOF by hand, though I did do a little bit of hand-done enhancement of the DOF in a few spots during postwork. I would strongly suggest setting the pixel samples (both X and Y) to at LEAST 20. I actually had the samples set to 25 for this render, and it was still a touch bit grainy in a few spots and needed a little bit of touch-up for the DOF grainy artifacts.

Posing her can be a bit of an intensive session, because a lot of the parts need to be adjusted per her pose, but for me at least, she's totally worth it! :D

Sorry this was so long. A lot went into the little tyke, but I'm very happy with how she came out. V3, V4, M4, K4, Genesis 1, G2F, bits and pieces of all of them are in there! LOL

I know you might not have the products I used, and-or might not be able to get them, but aside from the bark shaders (which are absolutely INTEGRAL with this at least for my character here), you should be able to cobble together something you like from the various freebie plants and such. Check any outdoor environment sets you already own as well, as a lot of these come with plants and trees - like I did with the Hagswood tree here to get some of her "hair" you can always set parts of actual trees or bushes/plants invisible and only use their leaves, depending on how their creator laid out their material zones. Also, if you check RDNA, there are a lot of very cheap plant items by Traveler (the Staghorn Sumacs were one of these, I believe) that you can use to cannibalize for a character like this.

Hope that helps, 'Chelle! Rue Grin

LOL Wow, that is awesome!
What I'm hoping to do is an image of a tree spirit from my one series, so some of this will be a HUGE help. Need to find some yellow flowers for her still though. And then, if I can get that done I'll do an image of her in a more "human" kind of form.

Yellow flowers? How about one of these maybe?

This one is a freebie from RDNA :
www.runtimedna.com/RDNA-Flower…

It would need some hand editing in the image maps, I think... you could replace the "faces" with an image of a standard flower center perhaps, and if you sink it into the ground enough, it might look like a regular flower.

There's also these, all for $1.50 :
www.runtimedna.com/RDNA-Grassl…
www.runtimedna.com/Modualz-Gar…
www.runtimedna.com/Modualz-Gar…
www.runtimedna.com/RDNA-Grassl…

Some of the daisies in the pack are indeed yellow. A LOT of Traveler's naturals/plant products are on sale right now for that $1.50 price, as well. If you go to Traveler's store, and start back at Page 13, and move forward (13, 12, 11, etc) from there, you'll see all of his plant products there :

www.runtimedna.com/Traveler/?s…

Also free, Xfrog has some plant "sample" items on their website. You'll need an account, I think, but this is their free category :

xfrog.com/category/samples.htm…

Note that their plants tend to be "billboard" aka on a plane with transparencies in many cases, and you will mostly need to import them to DS in OBJ format and manually apply the transparencies and textures in the Surfaces tab.

At the moment, they have a dandelion in there, so obviously that one is yellow. Their Samples category changes periodically, so if I'm really stuck looking for plants and can't find what I want elsewhere, I check their samples for it.

Maybe something in one of those links will help. :)

Okay. Once my Luna render is done, I will load the little thing up again and get you a full list. :)

I kind of want to do a portrait of it, too. It's cute enough. :)

All things are related. :) Plants are alive and full life-forms just as much as any animal (including us) is. I have been known sometimes to just sit at the base of trees and talk to them when I've had enough of humans and decided to go into the woods for a while. LOL

"Full life forms" That is a great way of putting it.
I've see documentaries about plants that have other plants that they go to war with and try to kill each other if they sense the other nearby...
Trees that walk towards better lighting.. Its the idea that there is a consciousness within the vegetation that i have started recognizing and its amazing to me! An Ent like Treebeard is not such a far fetched idea.

I was always taught to show the same respect to animals and plants as I would another person, because they are just as much alive as we are. I'm not sure where humans got the idea that we were superior, really. We are not a higher life form in any way. We are a part of the animal kingdom, just as much as any animal is. We talk - but so do other animals. There are birds who attract mates by mimicking exactly the sounds they hear in their environment. The more varied their calls/sounds are, the higher likelihood that they will attract a mate. Dogs bark, cats meow, trees rustle and creak, leaves whisper. It's all alive.

I've always had a deep respect for the animals and plants in our world. I love them. I have a hard time leaving the woods when I go in. In some ways they make much better company than many humans. LOL. Oh, I always come back out again. But I really do at times prefer the company of plants and animals over humans.

All things are related. All things are alive. The world we live on is a living, breathing thing. And everything has something to say. It's just a matter of whether or not we are listening. :)

This image is a creative writing character of mine, who exists in a fantasy/sci-fi world, and while the sheer level that she is connected to the living things around her is make-believe, I would be lying if I tried to deny that she in many ways is my character representation for the part of me that holds the living things around us so dear.

What you see in the render up there, is how I see the world around me... ;)

And Colt might try... but I don't think he'll have much to worry about. Stefanie would never even dream of trying to bring it out of the woods it belongs in. He'd have to worry more about Stefanie trying to bring Eloise out there for it! Haha...
